German Authorities Seek Extradition of Right-Wing Extremist Sven Liebich Following Arrest in Czech Republic

German justice officials plan to submit an extradition request for Sven Liebich, who was apprehended in the Czech Republic after failing to serve a prison sentence for incitement to hatred.

The extradition request follows a plea from Czech authorities. Liebich, who has the option to accept or reject the extradition, was sentenced to 18 months in prison in August 2022. If extradited, she will be transferred to Chemnitz, where Saxony’s judiciary will take over the case. The situation has drawn criticism regarding the potential misuse of Germany’s recently enacted self-determination law, under which Liebich changed her gender designation to female.
