Trial Begins in Stuttgart Over Alleged Mafia Links of German Police Officer
Next week, a trial will commence in Stuttgart against a German police officer accused of cooperating with the Italian ’Ndrangheta mafia. The officer allegedly provided the mafia with access to police computer data, including vehicle registration and personal information. This case is part of a larger investigation known as “Operation Boreas,” which has led to numerous arrests across southern Italy and the Stuttgart area. Among those detained in the April 2025 raids was the officer, who has been in custody since. Investigators have also documented violent mafia activities in Germany, such as an attempted murder linked to drug debts in Kornwestheim near Stuttgart. The state’s criminal police (LKA) report a new criminal modus operandi involving unpaid food orders resold to local restaurants, causing significant financial damage. The trial, expected to start on December 18, highlights concerns about mafia infiltration within German police forces and ongoing efforts to combat organized crime on both sides of the border.
