Venezuelan Nobel Peace Laureate Machado Makes First Public Appearance in Oslo
María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and newly awarded Nobel Peace Prize laureate, made her first public appearance during her visit to Oslo. After arriving in Norway, she was seen on a balcony of the Grand Hotel and later greeted supporters in the street. Reports indicate she was initially transported from Venezuela by boat to Curaçao and then flew via private plane over the USA to Norway. Machado did not arrive in time for the official prize ceremony, and her daughter represented her there. She is a prominent figure in the Venezuelan opposition and faces investigations in Venezuela, including charges of treason. Prior to her trip to Oslo, Machado had been living mostly in hiding for over a year. This visit marks an important moment as she steps forward publicly after a period of underground activity.
