Oslo to Launch German-Made Robotaxi Service in 2026
The Oslo public transport operator Ruter plans to introduce autonomous robotaxis in 2026. These vehicles will be the ID. Buzz AD, an electric self-driving van developed by Moia, a subsidiary of Volkswagen. The service is set to start in spring 2026 in the Groruddalen district of Oslo, where the vehicles will be tested under challenging weather conditions such as snow. Ruter aims to integrate up to 30,000 autonomous ride-sharing vehicles into Oslo’s public transport network to help reduce traffic congestion and emissions. Moia, which currently offers ride-sharing services in several German cities, views this project as a significant step towards expanding and commercializing autonomous mobility in Europe. Moia also plans to provide a comprehensive package of autonomous vehicles, software, and operational services to support transport operators. They intend to obtain EU type approval for the ID. Buzz AD by 2027.
