Lufthansa Subsidiary Launches Direct Flights from Frankfurt to Arctic Tourism Highlight
Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, has inaugurated a direct flight route from Frankfurt Airport to Alta, Norway, marking the airline’s first connection to this unique Arctic destination. The inaugural flight on December 4, 2025, operated by an Airbus A320, was nearly fully booked and completed the journey in three and a half hours. From December 2025 to mid-April 2026, Discover Airlines will offer up to two weekly direct flights to Alta every Thursday and Sunday. Alta is renowned globally for its exceptional opportunities to observe the Northern Lights, visible from September to March, with peak visibility during the polar night from late November to mid-January. This new route enhances Discover Airlines’ network in Northern Europe, which already includes destinations such as Evenes and Ålesund in Norway, Kittilä in Finland, and Reykjavík in Iceland. The direct flights open up winter travel options for passengers from Frankfurt, featuring activities like dog sledding, Northern Lights safaris, and stays in igloo hotels.
