Ukrainian media, citing intelligence sources, report that the Ukrainian army has again attacked an oil tanker in the Black Sea, allegedly using sea drones. The vessel, flying under the Comoros flag, is described as part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ and was reportedly traveling with its transponder deactivated towards the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. At the time of the alleged incident, the ship was said to be within Ukraine’s exclusive economic zone. This latest incident follows two recent attacks on oil tankers in the Black Sea, which have also been attributed to Ukraine, although Kyiv has not provided official confirmation for any of these events. The ‘shadow fleet’ vessels are reportedly involved in smuggling Russian oil to bypass international sanctions imposed on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine.
