Death Toll in Sydney Attack Rises to 15, Suspects Identified
The death toll from the antisemitic terror attack in Sydney has risen to 15, with victims ranging in age from 10 to 87 years. Approximately 40 injured individuals are currently receiving hospital treatment. The two suspects, a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son reportedly from Pakistan, were involved in the attack during a Chanukah event at Bondi Beach. The father was shot dead by police, while the son was seriously injured and had previously been monitored for possible IS connections.
Australian Prime Minister Albanese labeled the incident a terrorist attack and highlighted its impact on the entire nation, emphasizing that an attack on Australian Jews is an attack on all citizens. The attack has drawn international condemnation from figures such as the UN Secretary-General and the President of Israel. In response, the Australian government is considering stricter gun laws, including limits on the number of weapons an individual may own, as efforts intensify to better protect Jewish life and combat antisemitism.
