Sudan Tops Humanitarian Crisis List for 2026 Amid Brutal Conflict
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has released a ranking of countries likely to face worsening humanitarian conditions in the coming year. Sudan leads this list for the third consecutive time, followed by the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and South Sudan. The ongoing war in Sudan is described as a “brutal stalemate,” with entire cities cut off from aid during sieges. The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF militia risks expanding to other regions of the country.
According to the German IRC representative, Görgen, an unprecedented number of people are now dependent on humanitarian assistance through no fault of their own. At the same time, international support systems are being dismantled due to shifting political priorities, exacerbating the crisis. This highlights the increasing challenges faced by vulnerable populations amid prolonged violence and reduced aid.
