The German federal government and states have officially opened a new drone defense center located within the Federal Police in Berlin. This center aims to bring together all security agencies to collaboratively address the increasing threats posed by unauthorized drones. The establishment was decided by the interior ministers of the federal and state governments earlier this month.

The creation of this center responds to a rising number of drone sightings across Germany since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Critical sites such as airports, military bases, and energy providers have experienced increased drone activity. The center’s main objectives are to prevent sabotage and espionage and to ensure the safety of air traffic. Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt was also expected to attend the inauguration event.
