How the Once-Declared Dead Ski Resort Will Flourish

Heiligenblut is actually a snow-secure ski area, yet it faced extreme problems in recent years as it was close to closure.

About two years ago, the ski resort at the foot of the Großglockner mountain was threatened with closure due to a lack of overnight stays in the Mölltal region.

Now, representatives of the cable cars, the municipality, entrepreneurs, and new investors aim to revive the ski area with a total of 55 kilometers of slopes, eleven modern lifts, a freeride arena, and more.

Cable car chief Christian Prinz stated that hotels have been renovated, citing the Kärntner Hof as an example with excellent occupancy, emphasizing the need to stay innovative and offer new ideas.

Several modern events are planned for the winter season, including DJ performances and night skiing, with the band Mountain Crew providing party atmosphere.

Prinz stressed that many tasks remain for the future, mentioning investments in slope equipment and digitalization.

He expressed satisfaction that local entrepreneurs are motivated again and want to jointly advance the ski area.

Since this weekend, winter sports enthusiasts can once again ski down the slopes.
