Liverpool coach Slot holds Tottenham defender responsible for Isak injury

Liverpool coach Arne Slot has blamed Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven for the serious injury suffered by Liverpool’s record signing Alexander Isak.

Slot described van de Ven’s challenge as ‘reckless’ during the 2-1 win in London, stating that repeating such tackles carries a high risk of serious injury.

Isak sustained an ankle injury with a fractured fibula and has already undergone surgery. He is expected to be sidelined for several months.

The 26-year-old Isak, who joined Liverpool in the summer for 150 million euros from Newcastle United, has so far fallen short of expectations, scoring only two league goals.

With Mohamed Salah away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo potentially unavailable for the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Slot’s attacking options are limited to Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa.
