Sweden announces a ban on PFAS in consumer goods starting in 2028 to safeguard health and the environment.

Sweden plans to prohibit the use of ‘forever chemicals,’ known as PFAS, in items like clothing and kitchenware by 2028. Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari emphasized the government’s commitment to combatting the spread of these harmful substances in homes and nature.

This decision follows years of warnings from health advocates and organizations about the dangers of PFAS. The announcement coincides with ongoing efforts by the European Chemicals Agency to establish EU-wide restrictions, with a final opinion expected later this year.
