In Austria, social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are officially permitted from the age of 14, supported by data protection law and platform rules. However, effective control mechanisms and legally binding age limits are reportedly lacking.

The Greens and, increasingly, the SPÖ are advocating for such measures. Australia’s social media ban for young people under 16 years old serves as a model for these demands.
