Euro Dominates German Exports to Non-EU Countries

News Brief: In 2025, over half of Germany’s exports to non-EU countries were conducted in euros, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The US dollar remains the second most used currency in these transactions.
More than 54.7% of German exports to non-EU countries were settled in euros in 2025, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office. The US dollar accounted for 26.4% of these transactions, followed by the British pound at 4.8%, the Chinese yuan at 2.7%, and the Swiss franc at 2.4%. Imports, however, saw the dollar as the dominant currency, used in 45.2% of transactions, while euros were utilized in 43.8%. Notably, exports to the United States were predominantly in dollars (68.6%), whereas exports to China favored euros (61.0%). In imports from China, the dollar was also the leading currency at 50.8%. The report highlights the varied currency preferences in trade with major non-EU partners.
