Legal Expert Highlights Major Flaws in Germany’s Fight Against Economic Crime
نقلاً عن “Interview der Woche” – Juristin Brorhilker sieht bei Bekämpfung von Wirtschaftskriminalität in Deutschland große Mängel
News Brief: Anne Brorhilker, a prominent jurist, identifies significant shortcomings in Germany’s approach to combating economic crime, estimating annual losses of around €100 billion to the state.
In an interview, Anne Brorhilker pointed out that Germany’s federal structure, poorly connected agencies, insufficient specialized personnel, and rigid administrative frameworks hinder effective action against economic crime. Criminals exploit these weaknesses, employing specialized legal teams and confusion tactics, creating a stark imbalance. Brorhilker estimates that tax evasion and other forms of economic crime cost the state approximately €100 billion annually, equivalent to one-fifth of the national budget. Notably, transactions like Cum-Ex and Cum-Cum schemes have resulted in at least €40 billion in damages, where investors obtained tax refunds for taxes they never paid. Brorhilker, who previously served as a senior public prosecutor in these cases, now works with the ‘Bürgerbewegung Finanzwende’ association. The full interview airs on Sunday at 11 AM on Deutschlandfunk and is available now on the Deutschlandfunk app.
