News Brief: The Left party’s faction leader, Reichinnek, has condemned CDU politician Prien for proposed cuts to funding for democracy initiatives, which could significantly impact various organizations.

Reichinnek accused Prien of neglecting those who actively advocate for democracy, human rights, and the constitution. In an interview with AFP, she stated that the proposed cuts would severely limit projects reliant on financial support. Prien has announced a restructuring of the ‘Democracy Live!’ program, which would withdraw funding from numerous previously supported initiatives, including the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, BUND, and the Central Council of Jews. Instead, the funding is set to be redirected to schools, volunteer fire departments, and sports clubs.
