German authorities have charged a Ukrainian national over the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions.

German Federal Prosecutor Jens Rommel has officially charged Serhij K., a Ukrainian national, in connection with the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in September 2022. Investigators allege that K. led the group responsible for the underwater explosions, which targeted critical energy infrastructure.

Reports from ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Die Zeit reveal that K., currently in custody in Hamburg, faces charges including attacks on civilian infrastructure, causing an explosive detonation, and destruction of property. Evidence includes self-incriminating statements made during phone calls while in Italian custody. Authorities believe K. and six accomplices used a yacht named ‘Andromeda’ to carry out the attack. The pipelines were inactive at the time due to the Ukraine war and halted Russian gas imports.
