The Bundestag is undergoing a significant renovation of its conference rooms, investing approximately €28.3 million to enhance facilities during the parliamentary summer recess.

As part of a comprehensive modernization effort, several conference rooms within the Bundestag are being equipped with state-of-the-art technology aimed at improving acoustics and addressing structural deficiencies. The renovations are taking place during the parliamentary summer break, a time traditionally utilized for major construction projects.

Currently, the conference rooms are unrecognizable, filled with construction equipment and materials. Workers have removed furniture, exposing the walls and ceilings, which are now lined with cables and scaffolding. This disruption has forced some parliamentary factions, including the CDU/CSU, to relocate meetings to the plenary chamber due to the ongoing construction.

The renovation project, overseen by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, will not only upgrade the faction meeting rooms but also modernize associated press and technical facilities. While the main conference rooms are expected to be completed by the end of the summer recess in early September, the press rooms will remain under construction until the first quarter of 2027.
