In the Syrian city of Aleppo, Syrian government troops and Kurdish fighters engaged in heavy clashes.

Residents reported to the dpa news agency that heavy weapons were used during the fighting.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurdish militia YPG, attacked positions of the security forces, according to the Defense Ministry in Damascus.

The ministry denied accusations from the SDF that government troops had attacked their positions, stating that the army only responded to fire.

The SDF described the incident as part of an ‘uncontrolled escalation’ threatening the lives of civilians and the security of the entire city, holding the government in Damascus responsible.

Dozens of people reportedly left the area out of fear of further escalation. The state news agency reported that an ambulance came under fire and several people were injured.
