Political comedian Uwe Steimle has signed a cease-and-desist agreement following widespread criticism of remarks made during a public event, which invoked historical figures in a contentious manner.

Uwe Steimle, a political satirist, has come under fire for comments made during an event linked to the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Dessau-Roßlau. Steimle questioned the absence of historical resistance figure Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg in relation to contemporary political leader Friedrich Merz. Following the backlash, Steimle signed a cease-and-desist agreement, acknowledging the sensitivity of his comments. The grandson of Stauffenberg expressed relief at the legal resolution but noted that a public apology would have been more fitting, given the gravity of the remarks.
