DLRG expects fewer bathing fatalities in 2025 overall
The German Life Saving Association (DLRG) predicts that the total number of bathing-related deaths in 2025 will be significantly below 400. As of the cut-off date on September 15, 321 people had lost their lives in water bodies, which is 33 fewer than the same period in the previous year. This decline reflects ongoing efforts to improve water safety and rescue operations.
At the rescue stations along the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts, approximately 6,500 lifeguards are currently on duty, an increase of about 1,000 compared to the previous year. DLRG President Vogt highlighted that the most common cause of accidents remains misjudging one’s own swimming abilities. These insights underline the importance of vigilance and proper assessment of skills in preventing drowning incidents.
