Europe ranks second worldwide in quantum technology patents

Europe holds a significant position in the global quantum technology patent landscape, accounting for 25 percent of patent applications in this field, placing it second only to the United States. According to data released by the European Patent Office and the OECD, the US lead in quantum patents has diminished over the past decade, with its share dropping from 41 to 31 percent.

Japan and China follow Europe, occupying the third and fourth spots respectively. Germany itself secures fifth place globally with a 7 percent share of quantum technology patents. Quantum technology encompasses advanced fields such as high-performance computing, secure communication resistant to decryption, and highly precise measurement techniques.
