Far-Right Candidate Outlines Plans for Migration Overhaul and Government Restructuring

Ulrich Siegmund, the lead candidate for the far-right party in Saxony-Anhalt’s upcoming state election, has unveiled controversial plans to enforce stricter migration policies and restructure government institutions if elected.

Ulrich Siegmund, the lead candidate for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Saxony-Anhalt, has announced his intention to implement sweeping changes to migration policies and government operations if his party secures power in the upcoming state election on September 6. Speaking on a podcast, Siegmund emphasized the need for ‘remigration,’ which he described as reversing what he called ‘misguided migration policies.’ He stated that approximately 4,800 individuals in the state are currently required to leave the country and pledged to enforce their departure.

Siegmund also proposed the introduction of mandatory work requirements for asylum seekers, which he claimed could be implemented through the state’s interior ministry. He criticized the lack of political will to enforce existing laws and suggested that his administration would act decisively to address these issues. For individuals who cannot be deported, Siegmund suggested their placement in specialized facilities to prevent them from causing ‘problems.’

The AfD candidate further outlined plans to cut funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and hinted at withdrawing from the state media treaty, although he acknowledged that such a move would require legislative approval. Siegmund dismissed the possibility of forming a coalition with the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), citing ideological differences, but left the door open for future collaboration if the CDU adopts a more conservative stance. He expressed confidence in the AfD’s ability to secure enough support to lead the state government.
