Federal and States Agree on New Digital Pact 2.0 for School Digitization

The German federal government and states have reached an agreement on a new edition of the Digital Pact 2.0, aiming to enhance the digitalization of schools. This agreement, announced by education ministers after a conference in Berlin, allocates five billion euros over the next five years for digital infrastructure in educational institutions. The financial burden will be shared equally between the federal government and the individual states. The pact is set to come into force retroactively from January 1, 2025. The initial Digital Pact, launched in 2019, expired in May of the previous year. A successor agreement was significantly delayed due to unresolved financing questions and was ultimately not adopted following the collapse of the “Ampel” coalition. This new accord marks a renewed effort to advance digital learning environments across Germany.
