German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has faced criticism for his perceived lack of leadership strength, with detractors from both opposition and within his own coalition questioning his ability to deliver impactful results. In response, Merz unveiled a comprehensive reform package during a press conference at the Chancellery garden, emphasizing the coalition’s commitment to addressing Germany’s challenges.

The 34-point agenda, titled ‘A Program for Growth and Employment,’ includes key measures such as a €10 billion income tax relief for small and middle-income earners, funded partly by adjustments to the wealth tax. Other reforms include extended Sunday operating hours for bakeries and libraries, and streamlined procedures for employment contracts. Merz urged citizens to support the reforms, stating, ‘Many small steps will lead to a greater reform outcome.’
