Germany Weather Warnings: Updates on Storm, Flood, Snowfall, and More

The German Weather Service (DWD) continuously issues warnings about various severe weather events across Germany, including thunderstorms, heavy rain, snowfall, icy conditions, heat, and flooding. These warnings range from moderate alerts, such as wind gusts, to extreme weather alerts like hurricane-force winds exceeding 140 km/h. The most dangerous effects of weather phenomena include flooding caused by persistent heavy rain, which can overwhelm drainage systems leading to overflowing rivers and landslides. Snowfall mainly disrupts traffic, especially in lowland areas where winter tires are less commonly used. Storms and hurricanes pose risks such as falling trees, power outages, and flying debris, leading the DWD to recommend staying indoors during such events. Thunderstorms carry additional risks like lightning strikes that can cause fires and damage electronics. Ice formation on roads, especially black ice, presents significant traffic hazards. During hail, people are advised to seek shelter and protect vehicles. The DWD provides maps showing current warnings and water level measurements at approximately 1,300 gauge stations nationwide.
