GKV Warns Federal Health Savings Insufficient, Contribution Hikes Expected
The German Statutory Health Insurance Association (GKV) has stated that the federal government’s planned two-billion-euro savings package for the healthcare sector is inadequate to ensure stable contributions. GKV Chairman Blatt indicated that the measures would offer only short-term relief, emphasizing the need for a structural reform to address an underlying expenditure problem. The GKV cites factors such as a high number of doctor visits, excessive hospital beds, uncoordinated processes, and significantly rising drug prices as contributors to the system’s financial challenges. Despite the government’s aim to stabilize contributions with its package, the GKV anticipates an average increase of over three percent in health insurance contributions next year. While the Bundestag has approved the legislation, the Bundesrat still holds reservations, leading the package to be addressed by the mediation committee before Christmas.
