Greens Propose Speed Limit Amid Rising Fuel Prices
The German Green Party is set to propose a nationwide speed limit of 130 km/h to address soaring fuel prices.
The proposal will be discussed in the plenary session tomorrow, aimed at reducing fuel demand and consequently lowering consumer prices. It is argued that a speed limit could also decrease CO2 emissions and traffic fatalities. Green parliamentary manager, Mihalic, emphasized the potential for rapid implementation. In response to high fuel costs, the ruling coalition announced a temporary reduction of the mineral oil tax on diesel and gasoline by 17 cents for two months, effective from April 15, 2026.
