Holiday Campaign for Family Caregivers
Holiday Campaign for Family Caregivers
The holiday campaign for family caregivers aims to financially relieve and support individuals who care for their family members at home, enabling them to spend their later years in their own homes.
Social Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister explained that family caregivers, who provide valuable unpaid services around the clock, are of enormous importance in the entire care and support sector, allowing those in need to remain at home, which most people wish for.
In 2025, over 750 applications were approved and more than 130,000 euros were paid out.
Caregivers receive 175 euros for a holiday taken in Austria, which increases to 225 euros if the stay was in Lower Austria. If the actual and documented accommodation costs are lower than these amounts, a subsidy equal to the documented costs is granted.
The program supports persons who care as the main caregiver for individuals requiring care at least at level 3. The campaign can be used once per person per year, and the application must be submitted no later than six months after the holiday.
Councilor Teschl-Hofmeister acknowledged that caring for relatives can be physically and mentally demanding and a major challenge for the entire family. The Lower Austria holiday campaign is intended as a small recognition and support to enable family caregivers to take a well-deserved break and provide financial assistance.
