Hungary has blocked a positive assessment of developments in Ukraine, according to the Danish presidency of the Council of the EU. The Hungarian government cites the significant financial needs of Ukraine and claims that the Hungarian minority in Ukraine is being disadvantaged. German Europe Minister Michael Krichbaum accused Hungary of hindering the EU's progress. This veto means Ukraine cannot hope for formal negotiations regarding its EU membership aspirations. However, informal discussions about the accession process are reportedly still ongoing.
