A new joint drone defense center has been inaugurated in Berlin, operated by the Federal Police. The center serves as a collaborative hub where representatives from security agencies, the Bundeswehr, and intelligence services share information and coordinate responses to drone threats. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of critical infrastructure and public spaces against the increasing presence of drones.

The Federal Government has noted a significant rise in drone sightings since Russia’s military actions in Ukraine began. Incidents have particularly occurred at airports, Bundeswehr facilities, and energy providers. Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt highlighted concerns that many of these drones are likely operated by hostile forces, emphasizing the need for coordinated preventive and defensive measures.
