Klöckner Warns of Deadly Antisemitism in Germany Following Sydney Attack
Following the deadly attack on a Jewish celebration in Sydney, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner warned against losing sight of antisemitism in Germany. She highlighted that hatred towards Jews is becoming increasingly open, loud, and deadly. Klöckner emphasized that the attack in Sydney could have happened in Germany, underscoring the ongoing threat.
She reaffirmed the Bundestag’s special responsibility towards Jewish people, rooted in Germany’s history. The parliament must raise its voice whenever Jews are threatened, insulted, or attacked. This duty becomes even more critical when people are murdered because of their faith, as was the case in the Sydney attack where 15 people died and many others were injured.
