Myanmar: Army Air Strike on Rakhine Hospital Kills at Least 30
An air strike by the Myanmar army on a hospital in the troubled Rakhine province has reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and injuries to over 70 others. A local militia, the “Arakan Army,” stated that most of the deceased were patients. The attack completely destroyed the hospital. Nursing staff indicated the facility was overcrowded at the time of the strike, primarily because many other healthcare institutions in the conflict-ridden region have ceased operations. The military has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. Myanmar, considered one of Southeast Asia’s poorest nations, has been gripped by widespread violence since a military coup in 2021, leading to an ongoing civil conflict. This event highlights the severe impact of the conflict on civilian infrastructure and healthcare services.
