Groups of young men are using LGBTQ+ dating platforms to lure victims into violent encounters, sharing footage of their actions online.

A disturbing trend has emerged where groups of young men exploit LGBTQ+ dating apps to orchestrate fake meetups that lead to violent attacks. Victims are lured under false pretenses, only to be ambushed, humiliated, and filmed by their attackers. These groups often coordinate through online platforms like Discord, where they share videos and discuss their actions, revealing a pattern of targeted violence against queer individuals.

One victim, a 35-year-old man identified as Lukas, recounted his harrowing experience. Expecting to meet an adult date, he was instead confronted by multiple attackers who dragged him from his car, forced him to perform degrading acts, and falsely accused him of pedophilia. Lukas is one of over 70 reported victims of similar incidents across Germany in the past decade, with experts suggesting the true number of cases is significantly higher. Data shows that queerphobic crimes have surged nearly tenfold in the last 15 years, highlighting an alarming rise in targeted hate crimes.

Investigations have revealed that some attackers, self-styled as ‘Pedo-Hunters,’ claim to target individuals they suspect of pedophilia, often conflating homosexuality with criminal behavior. These groups frequently share violent fantasies and queerphobic rhetoric online, with some members expressing ties to far-right ideologies. Authorities have noted the presence of extremist content in these networks, raising concerns about the intersection of hate crimes and radicalization.
