Over 100,000 Family Reunification Visas Issued in Germany in 2025
According to a report by “Welt am Sonntag,” just over 100,000 people entered Germany in 2025 through family reunification visas. Turkish citizens made up the largest group, accounting for 15 percent of these visas. Nearly half of the visas were used for spouses joining their partners, while over one-third were for children joining parents in Germany. Only asylum recipients and those recognized under the Geneva Refugee Convention have a legal right to family reunification. Since July, individuals with subsidiary protection status, mainly Syrians, are generally no longer able to bring relatives to Germany. The German Interior Ministry noted that only two exceptions have been made since summer for humanitarian hardship cases. This information was broadcast by Deutschlandfunk on December 21, 2025.
