Prien: Birth Decline Seen as Chance to Improve Early Childhood Education
Federal Education Minister Karin Prien views the decline in birth rates as an opportunity to fundamentally enhance early childhood education in Germany. She emphasized that the funds freed up due to fewer births should not be used to fill budget gaps but rather invested permanently in improving the quality of daycare centers.
Prien also stressed the importance of retaining skilled professionals in educational professions. She plans to establish binding educational goals with the federal states. Under the proposed daycare quality law, federal funds will only be released if specific requirements and quality standards are met. These topics are set to be discussed at the upcoming Education Ministers Conference next Thursday.
