Researchers from World Weather Attribution found that climate change has made the hot and dry conditions responsible for Spain’s wildfires 20 times more likely and doubled the chances for similar conditions in France. Over the past 26 years, the risk of severe fire weather in Spain has tripled, while it has increased by 40% in France. A separate study revealed that the number of extreme fire weather days in Southern Europe has more than doubled, with an increase in intensity by approximately 50% since 1981. Experts emphasize that these findings underscore the urgent need to address fossil fuel consumption to mitigate worsening fire conditions.
