Telekom launches warning system to alert users of fraudulent calls

Deutsche Telekom has introduced a warning system that displays a message “Caution, possible fraud!” on users’ smartphone screens when they receive calls from numbers flagged as suspicious or fraudulent in a database. This alert applies to calls within the Telekom network from both domestic and international numbers.

Vodafone had launched a similar system in May, which has activated warnings around 50 million times since its implementation. Fraudulent calls often originate not only from Germany but also from countries such as the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Currently, O2 Telefónica, the third main mobile network operator in Germany, has not deployed such a fraud warning system.
