While the capital, Kyiv, experienced a rare calm night free from missile strikes, other regions like Odessa faced intensified Russian bombardments earlier in the week. The unusual quiet in Kyiv may have been influenced by the presence of visiting dignitaries, including leaders from the United Kingdom, Finland, and multiple Baltic states who attended Independence Day events. The city has seen few nights devoid of attacks recently, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened defense capabilities.

Ukraine is facing shortages in missile stockpiles necessary for its Patriot systems to intercept ballistic threats effectively. Zelenskyy disclosed specific figures to the press, showing a concerning decline in missile supplies compared to previous years. While long-term agreements, such as the provision of Patriot missiles from Germany for 2027 and 2028, offer hope, the immediate gap jeopardizes Ukraine’s ability to counter looming winter threats. Zelenskyy underscored the urgent demand for around 300 missiles to address short-term deficiencies.
