A German court has sentenced a Ukrainian man to 15 months in prison for allegedly working with a Russian intelligence agency to plan sabotage attacks on transport infrastructure.

A Ukrainian national has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison by the Higher Regional Court in Stuttgart, Germany, for alleged espionage and sabotage activities on behalf of a Russian intelligence agency. According to prosecutors, the man was involved in a plot to disrupt transport operations by targeting a package delivery service with incendiary devices.

Investigations revealed that the accused, along with two other Ukrainian men, had allegedly sent packages equipped with GPS trackers to Ukraine in March 2025. These devices were reportedly intended to gather information on transport routes and logistics. Prosecutors claimed that the next phase of the plan involved sending packages containing incendiary devices designed to ignite during transit, potentially causing widespread damage and instilling fear among the public. However, the plot was uncovered during its planning stages, and the accused were apprehended in Germany and Switzerland.

While the court convicted one man, the two other defendants were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The prosecution had sought significantly longer prison sentences, ranging from nearly three to over four years. The case has drawn parallels to previous incidents, including a 2024 logistics center fire in Leipzig linked to suspected Russian sabotage efforts. Authorities continue to investigate potential threats to critical infrastructure amid heightened tensions in the region.
