Death Toll in Kyiv Rises Amid Russia’s Heaviest Airstrikes Since War Began

Kyiv suffers its deadliest Russian airstrike since the war began, with over 20 killed and 90 injured.

The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, has been struck by what Mayor Vitali Klitschko described as the heaviest Russian airstrike since the war began. At least 20 civilians were killed and nearly 90 injured after Russian forces launched a massive overnight assault using approximately 500 drones and 70 missiles. Residential buildings were destroyed, and rescue teams are still searching for victims under the rubble.

The attacks also targeted other cities, including Kharkiv in the northeast and Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, where multiple injuries were reported. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of further large-scale Russian offensives, citing intelligence of ongoing preparations. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed the strikes were a response to alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian infrastructure, targeting military and energy facilities.
