EU Parliament to Vote on Asylum Procedures Involving Non-EU Countries

The European Parliament is expected to vote on a proposal allowing the deportation of asylum seekers to non-EU countries. If approved, the legislation would enable representatives of the Parliament and member states to negotiate the details on the same day. Currently, asylum seekers can only be sent to third countries if they have certain connections, such as family ties or a prolonged stay there. Under the new proposal, a formal agreement between a member state and a third country would be sufficient for deportation.

Additionally, the Parliament will vote on establishing an EU-wide list of safe countries of origin. These measures aim to streamline asylum procedures and clarify the rules concerning the treatment and return of asylum seekers within or outside the EU. The decision marks a significant development in EU migration policy discussions.
