Leading German companies and industry groups have called on the government to urgently implement promised reforms, citing rising costs and economic pressures.

In a joint letter to the federal government, prominent German corporations, including Audi, BMW, Siemens, and Mercedes-Benz, along with key industry associations, have demanded the immediate implementation of economic and social reforms. The letter emphasizes the need for swift action on measures outlined in the coalition agreement, warning that delays could harm the country’s economic competitiveness.

The signatories highlighted the challenges posed by high energy costs and shifting economic conditions, which they say are putting significant pressure on businesses. They stressed that the government’s approach to social and economic policies will be critical in determining whether companies can maintain their competitive edge, safeguard jobs, and continue investing in Germany.

The letter also criticized the current social security contribution rates, which have reached a record high of over 42 percent. The companies argued that rising contribution limits are unfairly increasing costs for both businesses and employees, and they called for sustainable reductions to ease the financial burden. The appeal was addressed to key government leaders, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Labor Minister Bärbel Bas, and Economic Minister Katherina Reiche, as well as the heads of the ruling coalition parties.
