The survey, commissioned by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, found that 47% of Eastern German respondents support AfD participation in a coalition government in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, compared to 37% in Western Germany. In scenarios where the AfD does not achieve an absolute majority, 29% of Eastern respondents preferred a coalition excluding the AfD, while 36% in the West favored this option. Additionally, 38% of Eastern respondents believe that AfD involvement would strengthen democracy, contrasting with 34% who anticipate a weakening effect. The survey included 1,573 participants from Western Germany and 1,570 from Eastern Germany, with results deemed representative for both regions.
