Intensive Search for Three Missing Hungarians in Nepal

In Nepal, a massive search operation is underway for three missing Hungarian nationals following devastating flash floods.

On August 28, 2026, severe flash floods swept through northeastern Nepal, particularly affecting areas near Tibet. The disaster was triggered by a glacial ice and debris avalanche, which blocked a river, leading to a catastrophic surge of water. As of Friday morning, the death toll has risen to 469, with over 1,400 individuals still unaccounted for, including at least 540 foreigners. Among the missing are three Hungarians who arrived just hours before the floods struck, reportedly traveling with a pilgrimage group. The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively involved in the search efforts. In response to the crisis, the European Union has allocated €2 million in immediate humanitarian aid to support the hardest-hit families and communities. The Nepali tourism agency noted that the region was bustling with tourists due to a major Hindu festival occurring nearby.
