Activists in Tunisia, one of the world’s driest nations, are pushing for urgent action as water scarcity devastates farms and livelihoods.

In Menzel Bouzelfa, known as Tunisia’s ‘Orange Capital,’ farmers like Rawè Kefi’s father face dwindling rainfall and salinized soil, forcing many to consider selling their farms. Tunisia’s water resources, already among the lowest globally, are further strained by climate change, leading to droughts and food insecurity since 2017.

Rawè Kefi, an environmental advocate and academic, calls for national awareness and policy change. She criticizes the government for failing to protect water resources and urges a reevaluation of export-focused agriculture, which depletes water reserves. Through art, education, and international climate negotiations, Kefi seeks to inspire collective action against the crisis.
